Josef Ekberg

1877 - 1945
Biography
Josef Ekberg was born and raised in Gustavsberg, working at the porcelain factory from his early teenage years until his death. In 1895 he started studying with Gunnar Wennerberg and in 1908 he took over the position of the factory’s artistic director from his teacher, a position he held until 1917. Ekberg drew porcelain patterns such as Sol, Blenda and Chic, but it is primarily decorative goods with décor using the sgraffito technique that has made him famous. In the 1920s and 1930s he increasingly moved towards using lustre glazes.
