Biography
Viktor “Vicke” Lindstrand was active in the arts for more than 50 years. His fame was mainly due to his glass designs, but he did have greater breadth. Apart from glass, he drew patterns for textile prints and book illustrations, he worked in ceramics and painted. His monumental public sculptures were also part of his artistry. Vicke Lindstrand was born in Göteborg on 27 November 1904. Until 1928, when he was employed at Orrefors glassworks aged 24, he made a living as an artist for newspapers in Göteborg. Simply, Vicke Lindstrand’s work at different glassworks can be divided into three separate blocks. The years at Orrefors meant that he became established as one of Sweden’s major glass artists. In the 1940s he works with ceramics as artistic director at Upsala-Ekeby, before returning to glass, this time at Kosta. In 1977, Vicke Lindstrand started working with Studio Glashyttan in Åhus, remaining there until his death in 1983.
