Helena Hörstedt

Helena Hörstedt is a Swedish fashion designer from Umeå, working in Stockholm. She graduated from Beckmans College of Design in 2004, and then started her own brand: Helena Hörstedt. Her garments are not seasonal fashion items for consumption over a short period, instead they represent another image of fashion, where the garment can be seen as a work of art. It is the process that is in focus, with sewing and creativity at the heart of things. Helena Hörstedt has not looked to make production more efficient or to simplify the manufacturing process to achieve greater sales or returns on her garments. All her items are sewn to order. This means that they are always bespoke, especially suited to the buyer in true haute couture spirit. A dress takes an average of 150 hours’ work.
