Aud Charlotte Ho Sook Sinding

1972 - 2009
Biography
The jewellery artist Charlotte Sinding’s (1972–2009) work is characterised by its lack of compromise and has been an important source of inspiration to many colleagues. Charlotte Sinding’s (1972–2009) was born in Korea and raised in Norway, receiving her artistic training at the School of Design at Pforzheim University, Germany, and a Master’s degree from the School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg in 2001. Tragically, she died from liver disease eight years later; shortly before her death a group of artist colleagues took the initiative for an exhibition of her work at Röhsska Museum. Nature is a recurring theme in Charlotte Sinding’s jewellery, which often features animals, fruit or flowers in a large format. While many of the motifs have their roots firmly in the history of jewellery art, Charlotte Sinding’s jewellery breaks away from public expectations through the choice of materials and its size. The underlying stories often deal with mankind’s relationship to nature and the power relationships between them. The motifs, which are enchanting on the surface, have a dimension of unease, where the beautiful can border on the spooky or unpleasant.
