Description
Monica Bratt came to Reijmyre Glassworks in 1937. Bratt wanted to make a contribution to utility glass and was driven by a desire to make, as she put it, 'more beautiful everyday objects'.
To give the glass objects their proper character and beauty, Bratt's motto was that "the colour should emphasise the shape". She favoured simple and almost archaic shapes in sturdy glass, often in shades ruby red, green and blue, but also transparent. The ruby coloured glass became a signature for Bratt as well as Reijmyre, and together with glassblowers Harlad and Harry Eriksson, she experimented with new shapes, colours and glass techniques to perfection. Her artistic efforts brought Reijmyre Glasbruk to a leading position among Swedish glassworks in the mid-20th century.
