Description
Charlotte Perriand worked from 1946 to 1948, designing the interiors of Le Doron Hotel in Méribel, France. Located in the Alps, the hotel was situated in one of the first modern ski resorts in France, offering accommodation, restaurants and lifts. As Méribel was located in an alpine valley in roadless country, getting there was complicated and building the new resort proved to be a challenge. Charlotte Perriand's interiors for the hotel were created in a robust rural style as a result of the high inflation and raw material shortages in France after World War II. As a result, the furniture for the hotel was manufactured using the cheapest and most locally sourced materials possible. The chair, Chaise tripode en bois, designed in 1947, was inspired by traditional country chairs with three legs. This type of chair was often used in stables and barns; the three legs make it stable even on uneven surfaces. The three-legged chair was used in Le Doron Hotel's guest rooms, public spaces and the Shangri-La nightclub, which was housed in the former stables. The Röhsska Museum chair has a pine seat and back with ash legs.
