Description
Cream jug of yellow-white creamware, decorated with shell ornaments and dolphins.
Created in England during the first half of the 18th century, creamware was introduced to the Swedish market in the 1770s as a cheaper alternative to porcelain. The addition of flint made made the clay easier to work with wich facilitated more detailed work than the faience . While early pieces of creamware retained the organic forms of the Rococo, often inspired by French or English models, they would soon be abandoned as the more strict design language of the Neoclassical was adopted. Creamware would eventually come to dominate Swedish ceramic production of the 19th century.
