Description
Kelp chair is a 3D-printed chair developed by Alexander Westerlund in collaboration with the design platform Interesting Times Gang. The object is made from recycled fishing nets sourced from Scandinavian waters, combined with a wood-fibre-based biocomposite.
By transforming marine waste into a structural material, the work explores how industrial residues can be integrated into future design production. The form is generated through digital processes where material behaviour influences the final shape.
The chair has received international recognition and several design awards, including the German Design Award, Green Good Design Award, Good Design Award, Seoul Design Award, Interior Design Magazine’s Best of the Year Honoree, and the BIG SEE Design Award.
