Handarbetets Vänner

*1874
Biography
Handarbetets Vänner (HV – Friends of Handicrafts) was founded in 1874 by Sophie Adelsparre to "refine Swedish textile crafts in the national spirit and with an artistic focus". HV established a pattern studio, handed out textile commissions to weavers around Sweden and, in 1924, started training weaving instructors. At the start of the 20th century large tapestries were woven as wall decoration, including ones based on mural paintings by Carl Larsson and Gunnar G:son Wennerberg. A number of Sweden’s foremost textile artists have been linked to HV.
